Samsung’s lighter Galaxy Z Fold8 family established one 2026 benchmark. Apple’s confirmed iPhone Duo now turns foldables into a more direct ecosystem contest.

Foldables are no longer defined by whether a flexible screen can work. The more useful contest is now about weight, proportions, app behavior and how much compromise people accept when one device has to work as both phone and compact tablet.

Samsung focuses on everyday proportions

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 weighs 201 g, bringing it closer to familiar flagship-phone territory. The company also emphasizes content-friendly display proportions—a recognition that geometry can matter as much as raw screen area.

Apple changes the competitive frame

The confirmed iPhone Duo brings Apple’s app ecosystem and iOS 27 adaptations into the same conversation. That does not settle questions about durability, price or long-term demand, but it does make foldable software a mainstream platform issue.
